Re: Freeing Souls in Hellfire Citadel

Postby Resileaf » August 24th, 2015, 4:00 pm

Resileaf knew that some judged her for her unwillingness to trust Ketani, but it had less to do with not trusting her, and more with not trusting her chosen profession. She did not care much for her personal feelings on why she became a warlock, or how she thought she could help with her powers.
Demons were a blight on the universe, and needed to be killed. Just because someone summoned them to fight more demons didn't mean they were any less worthy of death.

She made herself ready to strike at Brinnea's command, her arrows already glowing with the divine power of Elune.
The power of her Goddess... This was something she could trust. This was something she could respect. The demons would cower in fear before her holy arrows, burned to cinders by Elune's essence. With renewed confidence, she raised her bow and waited for the first enemy to appear.

Brinnea watched her comrades prepare for anything that waited beyond the door as her spell’s chill seeped into its wood and metal. After a few long, quiet moments of tense mental preparation, the death knight took point and with a sharp kick, bashed the door off its hinges and onto the floor, where it shattered into hundreds of pieces. Beyond the door, five orcs – each grown large and dark of skin by demonic power – were waiting for them. Each had drawn weapons, and faced the party with red eyes burning hot with fel rage. Brinnea sprang through the door, giving her allies a clear look into the room as the orcs began to press towards them, snarling and shouting what seemed to be insults in the orcish tongue. She shouted to her friends, “Attack!” and snared an orc which seemed to be a sage of sorts with dark tendrils that bound the throat, preventing movement and spellcasting. Then she raised her weapons – twin runeblades etched with runes which named them as Grolfrost and Paragon – and readied for battle.

Kresk watched as Brinnea darted into the next room, and followed closely as the orcs beyond quickly closed in on the door. He looked over each of the orcs, one of which seemed to be a spellcaster Brinnea had silenced, two others were warlocks for certain, and were already preparing to cast spells tinged in fel green. The remaining two carried an axe and shield each, and charged for the paladin and death knight already on their side of the door. Kresk raised his hammer to meet the shield of the first orc. ((Rolled 13 offense vs 2 defense)). In a blind rage, the orc neglected to even lift his shield, instead opting for leading with his axe. Kresk’s maul had greater reach, and so he scored the first blow. The weight of the hammer dug into the orc’s breastplate, no doubt cracking some ribs and causing internal trauma. The orc didn’t even flinch.

The other shield-wielder prepared to charge the next fighter out the door, and the spellcasters aimed their spells for doorway, paying little heed for their comrade already in the way. ((Enemy defense to beat: 18. If beaten, an enemy may be wounded this round.))

((rolled an 8 for a miss. Is the 18 for all four remaining orcs, or just for the very next roll which is mine?))

The air felt cold and still to Tayissa as Brinnea's magic did its work on the door. As the other ranged fighters took up positions to attack into the doorway, Tayissa couldn't help but feel uneasy. An abundance of holy magic, a warlocks fury, death knight runes and hardened steel, the party had a variety that should be able to handle any threat, but something gnawed at the back of her mind. They were few in number, but Tayissa was accustomed to fighting at a disadvantage. As her thoughts drifted, Brinnea moved to the door.

Tayissa turned her head away from the door to protect her face as Brinnea delivered the shattering kick. As she snapped her head back, Brinnea was already leaping towards a pack of orcs. Her eyes rested on each of the orcs in quick succession. Two of the orcs held axes and shields, and were already on the move. Tayissa drew in a deep breath and exhaled completely to steady her aim, targeting the closest orc moving to the door. Just before she could squeeze the trigger, Kresk followed Brinnea into the doorway, blocking her shot to engage the orc she was aiming for.

Tayissa shifted her aim to the second orc at the doorway and fired her rifle. With a tremendous bang, the rifle belched out a cloud of white smoke and a satisfying ping echoed on the other side of the doorway. Setting the butt of her rifle on the floor, Tayissa grabbed a cartridge from her ammo pouch and dropped it into the rifle. As she worked the ramrod into the barrel, Tayissa assessed the damage to the orc. It seemed to have raised its shield while waiting for the next fighter through the door, deflecting Tayissa shot as a fresh dent marked the orc's shield. If the group had gone unnoticed thus far, surely they were heard by now.

((18 is overall defense, so if you beat it, you hit one of them this round. Counts for everyone.))

Siané faced a dilemma. If she stood in front of the doorway, she'd have better line of sight on the melee fighters who entered the next room... but so would the enemies have on her. And she was afraid. Afraid of being in the way, afraid of getting hurt. Clutching the healthstone like a talisman, she did it anyway, moving behind the ranged forming up before the shattered door.

She called the Light to hand, ready to send it over whoever took the next hit.

[[ Rolled a freaking nat 20! Whoever takes the next hit can incorporate the heal into their post. ]]

Myaka dropped into a ready stance, eyes darting between the casters and the armored Orc that neither Brinnea or Kresk had engaged.

warlocks biggest threat, but move to them leaves our support open to the armored one

Battlerage played the two options out, running through the various actions and reactions in seconds without a clear best choice. Tayissa's rifle shot made her choice and she charged. Using the orcs distraction of blocking the shot to slide to its side and bring her broadsword down on an overhead swing to smash on the orcs arm to wound it. She prepared to respond to any retaliations, keeping an eye on her group in case she needed to defend.
