Brinnea watched her comrades prepare for anything that waited beyond the door as her spell’s chill seeped into its wood and metal. After a few long, quiet moments of tense mental preparation, the death knight took point and with a sharp kick, bashed the door off its hinges and onto the floor, where it shattered into hundreds of pieces. Beyond the door, five orcs – each grown large and dark of skin by demonic power – were waiting for them. Each had drawn weapons, and faced the party with red eyes burning hot with fel rage. Brinnea sprang through the door, giving her allies a clear look into the room as the orcs began to press towards them, snarling and shouting what seemed to be insults in the orcish tongue. She shouted to her friends, “Attack!” and snared an orc which seemed to be a sage of sorts with dark tendrils that bound the throat, preventing movement and spellcasting. Then she raised her weapons – twin runeblades etched with runes which named them as Grolfrost and Paragon – and readied for battle.
Kresk watched as Brinnea darted into the next room, and followed closely as the orcs beyond quickly closed in on the door. He looked over each of the orcs, one of which seemed to be a spellcaster Brinnea had silenced, two others were warlocks for certain, and were already preparing to cast spells tinged in fel green. The remaining two carried an axe and shield each, and charged for the paladin and death knight already on their side of the door. Kresk raised his hammer to meet the shield of the first orc. ((Rolled 13 offense vs 2 defense)). In a blind rage, the orc neglected to even lift his shield, instead opting for leading with his axe. Kresk’s maul had greater reach, and so he scored the first blow. The weight of the hammer dug into the orc’s breastplate, no doubt cracking some ribs and causing internal trauma. The orc didn’t even flinch.
The other shield-wielder prepared to charge the next fighter out the door, and the spellcasters aimed their spells for doorway, paying little heed for their comrade already in the way. ((Enemy defense to beat: 18. If beaten, an enemy may be wounded this round.))
